About 25 Scrivener Square — Thornwood II Condos
A few blocks north of downtown Toronto, on the border of Rosedale - Midtown and the Summerhill neighbourhood, the Cresford Developments’ Thornwood 2 Condos at 25 Scrivener Square feels as if it’s in world of its own. Situated across the street from the Thornwood One (also by Cresford), these condos sit between the grassy fields of Pricefield Road Playground, the refined Toronto Lawn Tennis Club, and North Toronto Station, a beautiful heritage structure. As a result, 25 Scrivener boasts a blend of small-town atmosphere and big-city sophistication.
The 13-storey Thornwood 2 Condos are themselves quite attractive. Designed by Young and Wright Architects, 25 Scrivener’s impressive array of private balconies and terraces, along with gleaming blue-tinted windows, richly texture the building’s clean, modern structure. Moreover, the building's exterior concrete features showcase elegant detailing, beautifully complementing the heritage architecture down the street.
Of course, the building almost perfectly matches its sister development at 20 Scrivener (almost, in that the second phase is 3 storeys taller). And being part of a complex like this means those living at 25 Scrivener can have a spectacular selection of amenities at a much lower cost.
While the Thornwood 2 Condos have their own rooftop terrace and lobby, staffed by 24-hour concierge service nonetheless, residents share the spacious and well-equipped exercise facilities with their neighbours, party room containing a showcase kitchen, games room, and hotel-quality guest suites.
The Suites
As welcoming as 25 Scrivener’s guest suites are, the 135 residential suites may be even better. Their sizes span approximately 600 to 4,000 square feet, and while most of the floor plans consist of two-bedroom layouts, there are some one-bedroom units as well, both with the option of an additional den. Regardless of whichever Toronto condos for sale best serves prospective buyers, the atmosphere feels fresh and comfortable throughout the building, especially since many living spaces extend onto private balconies, terraces, or patios.
Inside, the suites feature an elegant modern aesthetic. Though some have been customized since the Thornwood 2 Condos were completed (over a decade ago), the suites welcome new residents warmly, with an abundance of natural light flowing through their floor-to-ceiling windows.
The Neighbourhood
Thornwood II Condos’ street, Scrivener Square, was named after the hard-working politician, Margaret Scrivener. The street sits in prestigious Rosedale near the eclectic Summerhill neighbourhood, home to a passionate community. Indeed, the community has a lot to be proud of: along Yonge some come delicious local eateries and a collection of remarkable gourmet food markets can be found — affectionately called “The Five Thieves” since their products and services are so alluring.
Furthermore, finding some wine or spirits to pair with those gourmet goods will be a delight for residents. The neighbouring North Toronto Station is only a station by name: today, its grand halls conveniently house a large LCBO.
Transportation
Getting around the city is easy for residents — even for those who don’t drive. Residents who enjoy an active commute may be happy to hear that the condo boasts ample bike storage.
For those who prefer public transit, the Thornwood 2 Condos are just around the corner from the Summerhill Station, located at Shaftesbury Avenue and Yonge. Trains from Summerhill head north and south through the city on the Yonge-University-Spadina subway line, offering a connection to the east-west running Bloor-Danforth and Sheppard lines, each just a short ride away.
Last but not least, residents who drive can look forward to having easy access to the highway. Drivers need only head south a few minutes on Yonge to Aylmer, which becomes Rosedale Valley Road. This takes travelers to Bayview Avenue, where there’s an onramp to the Don Valley Parkway. This route completely bypasses the often busy traffic along Bloor, and usually only takes about ten minutes.
